---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Decade will be remembered for:

- Rise of electronic forms of creating music (Autotune and synths)
- Rise of electronic music (Daft Punk, Justice, Animal Collective, The Knife)
- Pop music shifting from bubblegum pop towards "clubbing" music (see: Britney Spears' change in music style)
- Some 60s/70s rock revival (The Strokes, The White Stripes, Franz Ferdinand, The Killers.) Otherwise, a pretty stagnant scene on the mainstream rock front ( i won't say "mainstream rock is dead!"... but the sentiment is close.)
- MP3's heyday
- Loudness wars and the deterioration of high fidelity
- First time artists release albums themselves, without a label. Expansion of the ability of distribution of music.
- Not as much "definitive" music from this decade as decades past. Because of the popularity of the internet in exploring music, people are listening to a lot more different stuff than the past. In the past, most people listened to the radio; there really weren't much options beyond that. Today, you can basically explore anything you want. Thus, a lessening of a consensus of "definitive" music of the decade.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

all of this could be revised, if i think of anything.

Yeee DDCP by Anberlin is fresh

Never Take Friendship Personal was beastly, but I thought Cities at least matched it

oh shoot, my reply is really late, but...

yeah, i know a lot of Anberlin fans really like Cities. I actually think Cities is the most popular Anberlin album, in fact, IIRC. But, for me, Never Take Friendship Personal is pretty easily Anberlin's masterpiece. NTFP had better overall songs and had MUCH more emotional resonance to me.

That's just me, though. I'm in the minority on this one, I know.
